I have Windows Live mail installed on my desktop and when I went to my
www.hotmail.com page it listed the 2 different accounts I have and I could
click on which one I wanted to check.

I just had to do a fresh install of my OS and I have not installed Windows
Live mail yet and now when I got to my hotmail page instead of the 2
accounts being listed only the last one I accessed is listed and under it is
says change to a different account.

This isn't really a hotmail question I wonder if installing windows live
mail on my desktop had anything to do with how my hotmail account appeared
on my hotmail page.

It doesn't make any sense why they are different now.

Does anyone have any idea if once you install windows live mail it changes
anything as to how hotmail website appears? the reason I ask id not it's
not hotmail anymore and you have a window live ID are they some how related
in a way??

Thanks

Installing Windows Live Mail does not impact what accounts appear on your Hotmail page.
Windows Live Mail does install the Windows Live Sign In Assistant, which when using IE to logon to Hotmail(hotmail.com or
mail.live.com) will provide the ability to retain Live ID's usernames and passwords for signon with one of those respective Live
ID's to the web interface.

Windows Live Hotmail(the web UI) not Windows Live Mail(the desktop client) does have the option to Link accounts
- Might this be what you meant by 'listed 2 different accounts' ???

From your message headers, I see that you are using an unpatched version of
Outlook Express. This indicates that your OS is XP and possibly IE6.
You need to go to Windows update.
What version of IE were you using? Could you have been using MSN Explorer?

WLMail list your email accounts in the Folder pane and checks all accounts
when you start the program. There is no need to go to www.hotmail.com. It
sounds like you were using MSN Explorer.

No I have 2 hotmail account one for me and one for business and before my
fresh install of XP the other day I went to hotmail.com and there were both
email address' listed and I could click on which one I wanted to check, in
the past I never linked mu accounts that is why I thought maybe WLM has
something to do with it since I did have it installed in my system before,
now I don't and my hotmail.com site acts different......lol

It was so much easier to see both email address' listed and I could click on
either one but now I have to go through several steps to get the same
results.

maybe I
ll install WLM and see if that does anything.. Since Microsoft created such
confusion by naming WLM windowns Live mail and Hotmail Windows Mail who
knows what they did.........lol

What he meant by "2 different accounts" is that the mail login page will
list multiple Windows Live IDs and lets you click whichever one you want to
deal with. (I have 4 Live IDs and they're all listed.)

FYI

When installing WLM it does have a effrect on how www.hotmail.com handles
your WLM ID's or Hotmail email addresses which are one in the same. I just
installed WLM and now my hotmial email addresses are listed as they were
before.

As Winston said, you have also installed Windows Live Sign In Assistant. It
is an add-on to IE.
It is listed in Add/Remove programs.

It comes with several of the Windows Live programs.
It is an option like MSN Toolbar.

When you install WLM, you need to set the different IDs up via the
Tools|Accounts menu, then they will all be listed on the left with separate
Inboxes and folders.

Your original statement was what appears on your 'Hotmail page'
You're Hotmail page is only available 'after' logon is complete and processed by the Live ID sign-on process.
- If WLM is installed the logon screen is managed by the Live Sign In Assistant as an add-on to IE
- If WLM is not installed, IE manages the logon screen

All Hotmail usernames are Live ID's and have been for over 2 years. Prior to being called Live ID's they were called Passport ID's.

Once WLM is installed, that functionality is handled by the Live Sign In assistant. Those ID's are stored in Control Panel/User
Accounts/<Manage Network Passwords>
<qp>

Windows Live Mail does install the Windows Live Sign In Assistant, which when using IE to logon to Hotmail(hotmail.com or
mail.live.com) will provide the ability to retain Live ID's usernames and passwords for signon with one of those respective Live
ID's to the web interface.

Windows Live Mail names:
Windows Live Mail Desktop > Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Hotmail names:
MSN Hotmail > Windows Live Mail > Windows Live Hotmail

Neither were named Windows Mail, that name was restricted to Vista's included email client.
