I plan to install Live Mail on my laptop. I have it set up on my desktop
now configured well. I discovered how to export and import Accounts and
Contacts but am not sure about doing it for the little customizations of
Live Mail itself -- Layouts, customized tool bars and so forth.

Would someone please point in the right direction here?

Thank you.

If you are used to WLM, stick with it. It's a pretty good at what it does. I
mean, there are other choices out there, but do you want to use something
different?

Thank you.

Actually, I just switched to Live Mail a week or so ago after I looked at
Thunderbird, Eudora, Agent and others. I found Live Mail suited me best.

Not so easy. Most of those settings are stored in the registry (at
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail) mixed up with all sorts
of other stuff. You could export the mail, News and Rules subkeys
and transfer them to the new installation, if it's the same OS. The
rest - largely in the root of the key - it's probably just as easy
to do in the app interface.

Thank you, Ildhund.

I sort of figured that would be the case but I thought I would give it a
try.

I believe this free backup program will restore all your settings:

Thank you, Gary.

I believe that will do the trick but it is not free. Only a free trial. It
is probably worth the money to get the registered version.

Think the 2nd URL accesses a/the free one but whether it has the
requisite functionality?

Thank you.

I know it says free but when I installed it, it came up as a free trial. I
must have done something wrong :)

You may have clicked on a wrong option while installing.
I know the free version urges you to upgrade to the 20-day
free trial of the full version.

Once again Gary, Thanks.

You were right. I must have succumbed to the urge to use the 20 day trial
version.

You patient, thoughtful responses to my problem give me courage in this
transition.
