When might we expect the next build to be released?

Your guess is as good as mine.
But if MS wants to release one more public build before the final
release, they had better do so soon. Rumor has it that the final release
will coincide with Vista SP1, which is scheduled for the Oct/Nov timeframe.

Man, I'm not purchasing my first Vista machine (actually, I'll be buying 2)
until February. Not to get off topic here, but is there a big security
problem with Vista or is the SP1 for other non-critical issues?

Thanks.

I have no idea what will be in SP1, but security problems
are dealt with by the monthly Windows Updates (WU), and
critical ones get faster hotfixes via WU.

Yes, this is true. If I remember correctly, SP1 (and SP2) for XP weren't
critical updates, either. Just some changes to the OS. I heard from the
"Windows Weekly with Paul Thurrott" podcast that one of the changes coming
in SP1 is to appease Google and change some sort of windows search in Vista.
Beyond that, I don't know either.
