IO still have it in Windows Mail and Thunderbird.
Under export and import the options are import messages, I do not see
contact list.
I know it has been asked(maybe). What is the easiest way to import my

See if you can export as csv file.
Import the csv file into the Address Book.

A silly question if you don't mind.
Have you forgotten to sign in ?
Were you offline ?

I am signed in.I have a Hotmail account I can sign in with. I have a live
account I can sign in with.
I was signed in with the live mail account and have no contacts. I tried
signing on with Hotmail address and I have contacts????
Why??

Another question. After I made a WLM account using Hotmail.I saw you can I
have a windows live account, so I made one. Do I have to bring my contacts
in to live account also??

If yes how is the easiest. I tried importing. I go to my contacts and it
says folder is empty. If I go to my contacts threw
C/User/me/AAps/local/Microsoft/Windows Mail ,it shows 4 folders all with
numbers. They are empty. I know I am doing something wrong.

As soon as I straighten WLM out, I am installing Windows 7.

Thank You Again

Doug,

Some Basic Info:

A Hotmail.com or Live.com or Msn.com email address is a Live ID account.
- each of the above are also Hotmail capable accounts
A third party email address can be registered as a Live ID account but not Hotmail capable

- All of the above has its own set of contacts and stored at contacts.live.com or people.live.com (both sites direct to the same
location)

Signing in with any Live ID account to Windows Live in WLM will sync the contacts with, and only with, the respective Live ID
account's online contacts. Once sync is accomplished with each respective Live ID, WLM writes that data to a unique contact
database. Each Live ID has its own contact database

If a Live ID is not used to sign in to Windows Live, WLM operates with the 'Default' account. No Sync, but the Default account also
has its own contact database and only locally stored.

Contact database(s) for all Live ID and the Default accounts are stored in a hidden folder. They are not stored at
/User/me/AAps/local/Microsoft/Windows Mail.
One cannot view one's Contacts in Windows Explorer(they are inside the database file(contacts.edb). They can only be viewed in WLM.

Questions:
Are you signing on to Windows Live with a Live ID account ?
If so, are the contacts present for that(and other Live ID accounts) at contacts.live.com or people.live.com

Are you contacts for any Live ID available in a csv file ?

Please see the above, and answer the questions, then we can proceed a bit more methodically.

Thanks.

Thank You for the explanation. It clears things up rather well!!

I have another one if you do not mind answering it?

In WLM I have a Hotmail Acct. and a Live Acct. When I was making new accts
I tried some user names but never made a password.

When I go to switch Accts. I have 2 other Acct names that were never
completed with Password. I can not sign on with them. I looked in WNL
Folders and found every Acct but these two. Most likely because they are not
Accts since they were never Registered with password.

How can I delete then from the drop down window of WLM sign in page or
switch user list??

Thanks Again

Doug

Doug,
You're welcome.

The Windows Live Sign In Assistant list of names can be access via Control Panel/User Accounts
- Click on Manage my Network Passwords. Delete all unnecessary Live ID's and tokens.

Note: In Windows 7 - look under Control Panel/Credential Manager or if entering via User Accounts then Control Panel/User
Accounts/Manage your Credentials. Click on the the unnecessary item(id's and tokens), then 'Remove from Vault'

The token files that were in the names I deleted. What are in those files?
There are numerous for each good account I have. These accounts are web
accounts. I did not see any ISP user names.

Each time I log on to Windows Live it makes a new folder??

Thank You

Doug,
Do you mean logon to Windows Live when using WLM, Hotmail via IE, or something else.

A bit more info on the 'new folder' too, if you will, since I'm not sure what you mean by folder ?
- Where and the name of the folder for starters

I found out how to remove the 2nd folder. I had 2 of the same Hotmail
accounts showing up not on the left side where accounts and folders are. It
was when I clicked on the sync button.

It showed to of the same Hotmail accounts??Under folders and email accounts
on the left of screen, there was only one hotmail account. I deleted the
accounts in tools/accounts. Then I just made a new one and All is fine.

Thanks
Doug

Yes.
Doug had a duplicate Hotmail email address(using Http) in the Sync Drop down box and only one set of downloaded folders for that
account in the Folder Pane. Each of the duplicates appeared under Tools/Accounts.
- He deleted one and now he's happy

Ron,
I suspect you don't see those Live ID and Tokens in Manage Network Passwords in XP.

XP, doesn't appear to store them the same way(or at all ?*) as Vista and Windows 7.

*Or at all ?*
- I've variation on two different XP versions with Windows Live Mail/Msgr and the Sign In Assistant installed
- XP Home (nothing at all)
- XP Pro(only one of the 3 Live ID's. Why one is present and not the others, no clue. (Noamount of logging on with the other
two Live ID's and checking remember username/pw has any impact on XP's ability to retain them).

I do know one can add a Passport.Net account on XP Pro(on this XP Home, the add option is not present)..but that will not show the
Live ID name only Passport/Passport.net/or some similar Passport named string.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\UserExtendedProperties\ ?
I don't know if it has anything to do with Sign In Assistant. It shows the

To ascertain how that occurred, we'd need more info, but since it is now functional, not necessary at this stage.

Yes..I did see that Registry post..

I have even more variation to report on XP..<g>
I've an older XP Home and Pro drives that I install(replaceable drive) periodically to keep it updated with WU/MU and Virus
defs...that unit has two Live ID's stored in the Manager My Network Password. WLM (and the Sign In Assistant) is not installed on
either XP drive. Neither of these were used on a domain but they do have Network capability(folder sharing and access to 2 other
units on the network)
- I rarely use those Live ID(they were originally Passport...one is my almost 15 yr old Legacy Msn account, the other ID was my
late fathers...both are still active accounts)

If I logon with a different Live ID I use on Vista or Win7 with WLM on those o/s to any Live site(Hotmail, People, Contacts, Msn,
account settings, etc) both XP Home or Pro does not add that Live ID nor does it matter if IE6/7/8 is the browser.(IE6 or later is
necessary for the Sign in Assistant).

I don't know for sure...but it seems that the Manage My Network Password stored Passports in XP at one time and well before the
Sign In Assistant. Which might mean that something later impacted that ability..the switch to Live from Passport, an XP update,
etc but that ability is restored or remains available in Vista and Win7 for Live ID's.

With respect to the registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\UserExtendedProperties\

- If I delete a Live ID from that registry key(on XP Home or Pro), it doesn't appear to impact the Sign Assistant ability to
retain that Live ID's(current or after a restart)
- If I click on the Live ID(deleted in the reg key, but still in the Sign In Assistant, the Live ID is added to that reg key)
- If I add another Live ID to the Sign-In Assistant screen(sign in with another Live ID), it does add the value to that key.
- If I 'Forget me' a Live ID in the Sign In Assistant, the value is removed from that reg key
