I have my WLMail set to get the Hotmail account messages as well as my
regular IP account. I have had this set up for the past year, and now
suddenly as it goes through the download process, when It comes to Hotmail I
get the dialog box that says Work Off line or Retry. When I click on Retry
it will give me an error that the server is not available.

Not sure what has caused this sudden error, nothing has been changed on this
end, and nothing on the Hotmail web account that I can see.

Any suggestions of what I might look for would be appreciated.

Jan :)

The Hotmail server could be down.
How long have you had the problem?

Hi Ron,

This is the second day that this error has been showing up. Once it makes
contact, which is usually by the 3rd try, it will work ok until I close the
WLMail and reopen it. It is only when I first open it that I get that
message. Once it has made contact with the server, it is ok again. I have
tried deleting the account and recreating it in WLMail, but, that does not
resolve it. None of the other machines that have the same setup have the
problem. Just this one machine.

How long are you leaving WLM open?
Leaving WLM running, later checks for email are ok?

Do you get the error if you do not connect at WLM startup?

Anti-virus scanning email?

Hi Ron,

When I open the WLMail in the morning (I don't shut down the PC, just close
all open programs) I get the error, then after a few tries I get the server
and as long as I don't close WLMail all will work fine. No problems with the
download of Hotmail messages. I don't have my AV scanning emails, and if I
don't connect to the server at startup, it shows me working offline and then
I get the error. My regular email, gmail and Verizon accounts all work
fine, it is just the Hotmail that does not want to work suddenly.

Yes, it works fine.

No.

> Live.com, msn.com, hotmail.com added to IE's trusted sites ?

Yes, it's been so since it was set up.

Standard IE7, I don't run betas on this machine.

A note here: For the past few days, I have been getting
http://v11.www.msn.com/ instead of my normal http://www.msn.com as my home
page. I had never seen the v11 in the address for that site before, and the
page layout is different. The other mail accounts don't seem to be affected
by it. Not sure why the http://v11.www.msn.com/ is coming up. I don't get
this page on my other desktop or laptop. I have run several scans on my
machine, but, so far nothing virus or malware has turned up.

Change it to:
http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx

See if it resolves your problem.

Sorry, that did not work. All was fine until my msn.com home page somehow
got changed to the v11.msn.com. This is the only machine out of 3 that has
this problem.

Thanks for your time and assistance, Ron and Winston. I have added the
http://v11.www.msn.com to the Privacy allowed and Trusted zone, just thought
I'd see if it would make any difference. Seems to have resolved the issue.
No more errors or Work offline dialog box.

I'm not sure I'm ready to buy that..since I also redirect to the v11 page on an XPsp3 and Vista sp1 betaless system...my trusted
site list is empty and all Live ID accounts(free, grandfathered, legacy pop3, sub-accounts, Hotmail Plus)using the DeltaSync 2.0 or
1.0 server function.

Something else is at play..a server issue resolved, other IE setting, or WLM corruption etc

Well......it may not have been the cure. All I know is that after I made
that change I am not getting the server error when it is checking hotmail or
the work offline dialog box anymore when I first open WLMail on this
machine. Whatever rectified the problem, it's gone. At least for now.

Well, the problem returned today, out of the blue. So, I have just deleted
the Hotmail account from the WLMail this machine. Without the account, all
works as it should, so I can live without the Hotmail account on this
machine.

Hi Jan,

Isn't it strange how some problems appear on only one box and can't be fixed?
