There is no one to ask for help really,
this is the message I get and i have no idea what it means

The connection to the server has failed.

You will find the correct settings for an 'optusnet.com.au' email
account at
http://help.optuszoo.com.au/help/dial/connected/windows/email.

The instructions tell you how to configure Outlook Express with a
dial-up connection. You can use the same settings for broadband
and also with Windows Live Mail.

However, the error message does not indicate anything wrong with
your settings. You could try changing the port number for
outgoing messages to 587 (in the advanced settings menu). If
that doesn't work, I suggest you contact optusnet for advice.

If you try to connect from a different network (an Internet cafe,
perhaps), then Optusnet will almost certainly refuse access to
their outgoing mail server. Are you connected to the Internet
via an optusnet broadband or dial-up connection? If so, you
could contact them, to enquire whether they allow subscribers to
use alternative secure settings (with authenticated sign-in), to
facilitate connection, when you are away from home. Otherwise,
you will have to use their webmail service.

Go to the account properties for your Gmail account - and if
necessary, change the following settings:

Under Servers / Outgoing Mail server, make sure the box marked
'My server requires authentication' has been checked. Click on
the 'Settings' option and check the box marked 'Use same settings
as my incoming mail server'. The box marked 'Log on using secure
password authentication' must NOT be checked.

Under the 'Advanced' tab, check both boxes marked 'This server
requires a secure connection (SSL)'.
Change the Port number for outgoing mail to 465.
If WLMail has been configured to use the IMAP server at
imap.gmail.com, the port number for incoming mail should be 993.
If WLMail has been configured to use the POP3 server at
pop.gmail.com, the port number for incoming mail should be 995.
Save your changes.

Then, use your browser to sign into your Gmail account at
http://mail.google.com.

Click on Settings (at the top of the window), followed by
Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Make sure that POP has been enabled, if you are downloading
message from the GMail POP3 server.
Make sure that IMAP has been enabled, if you are using WLMail to
synchronize with your GMail account.
Save any changes.
