Are you able to log in with that username and password at
http://gmail.com ?

Also, make sure your antivirus is not configured to scan emails.
Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Searching on your error code I got this MS page. Don't know if it will
help but...

'You receive error 0x800ccc90 or error 0x800ccc18 when you try to log
on to Exchange Server by using Secure Password Authentication'

Hi - Thanks MilesAhead - I accessed WIndows.Live mail to try your suggestion
and voila my gmail account was working w/o any error. I restored the anti
virus to check email and still the gmail account worked. I suspect that the
problem has been sporadic in the past? So for now gmail is working. Thanks
to all. The 'Ole Man'

A belated update which is the same problem exists with GMail & WLM and is
constant. GMail
works fine on Windows XP (OE 6) on a laptop I use. Maybe I should have
mentioned that I use Windows Vista - Home Premium, Norton IS, Ad-Aware and
Windows Defender which may have some impact on the problem. Any further
suggestions. Thanks for past assistance. The 'Ole Man'

Enable pop3 in your Gmail account's web user interface
Disable email scanning in NIS and any other resident scanner on your machine.

Hi Winston - Thanks for the reply. I disabled Norton NIS email scanning and
Incoming mail (POP3) is set to pop.gmail.com and still get
error on GMail access in WLM. There is no email scanning in Ad-Aware,
Windows Defender
that I could find. Is the problem that I have Windows Vista? 'Ole Man'

Double check your settings at Tools (ALT+T), Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Servers.

Make sure that your Gmail account name doesn't have any typos.

Also retype your password. Passwords are case sensitive.

And the settings below password should have the Clear text option.

Also a Digital Id may prevent receiving mail. In Windows Live Mail
click on Tools, Safety Options, Security, Digital IDs.
Under the Personal tab you may see a digital ID. Highlight it and click
the Remove button. Restart Windows Live Mail.

Hi Mike - thanks for the email. Settings & clear text were okay. I retyped
password and that cleared the problem . Access to Gmail was error free for
the past 3 days. I have retyped the password in the past and this has
cleared the problem for a few days and then the same error appeared again. I
suspect the same problem will reappear. I would like to leave this email
open for while if this is okay. I do have a digital ID for another email
address I have but left that as is and if the problem comes back then I will
reset the password and remove the digital ID.

After a month the problem has not returned and was fixed when the password
was retyped again. Thanks to everyone - your assistance is appreciated. The
