Using Windows XP Pro and Outlook express I cannot delete mail from the
inbox or from Sent folder.
I would like to avoid the delete Inbox or Sent Folder. I already deleted
one Sent folder because of that
reason and it seems that the same problem continued after I downloaded the
content of mail from
my backup folder.

I can move the mail or postings to a created folder and delete that
folder. This is this issue with some emails with pictures, not all of them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS !

I'm having the same problem deleating from my inbox. Some messages will
deleate but others won't. I took half the messages out of my deleate folder
and that helped deleate a few of the messages but most will still not deleate
from the inbox. I would have thought Microsoft personnel would have given
you the answer but they are either too busy or don't care. If you find a
solution, please post.

Hi Mac,
You need to post this at the ie6.outlookexpress group , this group is rarely
utilized and only for stationery questions.
I don't know the answer to your problem so I can't help you with it.
Sandy

Hi I am using XP Home Edition but seem to have the same problem... I can't
delete emails form my inbox. Clicking on the delete button in the task bar or
from the right clickof the mouse is useless as nothing happens. My internet
carrier is comcast, however I syncronized my comcast and hotmail accounts to
both open at the start up of outlook express and it seems that I can drag the
unwanted emails into the hotmail deleted folder and get rid of them that way.
I too contacted microsoft with the problem but I didn't have any luck with
them either, maybe this is a temporary solution until we get a better one.
Hope this helps. Should anyone find a fix for this annoying problem please
foward it to me!! Thank you and good luck.

I was wondering if you had ever found a solution to this deletion, or should
I say INABILITY to DELETE emails in the inbox or sent emails folder in
Outlook express.
I tried converting my email send/receive to OUTLOOK, but the same thing
occurs there too. FOUND ANY IDEAS YET?

I too can not delete msgs from Inbox. I also noted that my delete folder is
empty. The delete folder did have several hundred messages in it.

Any ideas??

Close OE and delete the deleted items.dbx file. When you reopen OE, it will
create a new one and that should fix the problem.

I, likewise, am unable to delete messages from my in box and sent box. This
occurred suddenly as all was well for the past year or two. How do you
delete the 'deleted items.dbx" file ????? What occurred here that triggered
this inconvenience? Please respond asap as my inbox is stacking up!

If you go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder that will give the
location of the message store. You also need to go to Tools | Folder
Options | View in Windows Explorer and uncheck the box to hide extensions of
known file types as well as check the box that says show hidden files and
folders. Then if you navigate to the store folder directory, then you can
find the deleted items.dbx file and delete it.

Steve, I followed your instructions below. Found the location of my store
folder. Went to that location and the folder was empty! The location
identified showed it in the "identities" file. There were supposed to be two
more files, with the last identified as "outlook". They weren't there. What
now???

You need to go to Control Panel | Folder Options and enable showing hidden
files and folders. Also try showing protected and OS files and see if that
works.

You can also do an Advanced search for *.dbx and include hidden files and
folders and that should locate it.

That helped. Actually, I went back to Windows Explorer (couldn't see a
"folder options" in control panel, and enabled "show all systems folders".
That allowed the Outlook Express files to appear. I'm a little nervous about
deleting the deleted items file. You are saying when I close Outlook Express
and open again, it will establish a new deleted items file?

Yes. If you have any messages in the deleted items folder you wish to keep,
move them out of it first.

If you are using Windows Mail, then see here: www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

If you are using Outlook Express, then close OE and delete the deleted
items.dbx file and OE will create a new one when you reopen it.

I also have certain messages that will not delete. They won't move to a
folder, delete or junk. This is getting very agrivating since others from
the same sender delete. Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.

First, where are the dbx files using explore all users? Second, I do not
want all the emails in my deleted folder to be gone.

That worked perfectly. I was having the same problem all the sudden. I found
also there were 3 different delete.dbx files on my machine. I deleted all of
them. I also noted there were multiple copies of other .dbx files with
different dates. I left them as there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Thanks for the help.
