Mine was shutting down (and restarting my whole CPU) when it would try to
receive and send after opening. The only suggestions I could find were that
my DBX files were corrupted. I wish I had saved the instructions I used but
I think I found them in one of the other forums back at the home page. The
suggestion was to delete all of the DBX files and when you restart Outlook
Express they will be recreated new. I saved my old ones to a folder on my
desktop just in case that didn't work. I also saved all of my e-mail
offline. I did as suggested and everything has worked fine since, but I
didn't figure out how to reload my old e-mail (I haven't really tried
though). Hope this helps.

There maybe problem with only one of the dbx files.
keep a back of the folder. now delete one file (dbx) at a time and see if
you are the facing the problem...
if you clear your problem upon deletion of any one file, then that file is
corrupt.
try it out first and reply and i will explain you how to import / backup
messages from that corrupt file to you working dbx files....

Yes, I have been having the same problem for quite some time now. Did you
ever get your situation resolved? I don't know what a DBX file is, but
others have suggested that it might be related to this problem.

Do a search for all the dbx files. Type *.dbx in the search window. Find the
outbox.dbx and delete it. Restart Outlook Express. I had the same problem and
that fixed it.

Well mine did that to because i have recently installed Microsoft Office
2007 Standerd and it said that mapi or something like that was missing. Try
to go to the Microsoft Site and type in Outlook Express and go to the
website that it gives you and try to repair it.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem. It's a pain!
Please let me know what the dbx files are, and if you found a way to resolve
this without paying $60 to Microsoft for support.

I was just having the same problem, very frustrating. I had tried shutting
down my ZoneAlarm antivirus, which didn't appear to help. Finally, I went
into ZoneAlarm and stopped the email spam filter. So far that has done the
trick.
