I do some backups automatically each week. The biggest thing that I back
up is Outlook Express. At least once a month, I go into OE and compact
messages, and delete message bodies and headers. This should keep the size
of OE down.

In the past, the **total** folder for OE has been in the 130 MB range.
Now, it is almost 600 mb. No matter what I can do, I cannot figure how to
trim it down. I have again compacted folders in OE, and deleted message
headers and bodies.

One other point........... and this is an example only. In my Deleted
Messages, I have emptied it. So, my deleted folder should be very very
small, maybe a few kb. But, it is 170 MB !! Why is that ?????

Any ideas why it now takes nearly 600MB for me to store OE, when it used to
be around 130 MB ??

Try emptying your recycle bin.
Sometimes that space still gets reported.
