Hello .
Can anyone help me out of this problem , I just took all my mail folders and
burned them on CD , because they took to much space with all attachments and
pictures .

All folders named (this and that),,,dbx ...but when I wanted to open and
read some of the mail .......I just cant open any of them .. when I clicking
on a folder (ore name)dbx. I get the open in ...box ...(what program to use
for the dbx file) .. and when open in outlook express nothing happen
...just nothing .

Can anyone explain how I can store e-mail (dbx files/folders ) and then be
able to open them again later and when needed . I will be very grateful for
help .

Vidar B Norway .

Hi!
Normally, the dbf format just only can open within
OutlookExpresss, now you have two method to re-open you
mail,
1. if you copy all the dbf files (include fooder.dbf)to
the disk, then you can copy back the whole dbf files to
your computer with a named directory. After that , you
need to open the outlookexpress ,then you can change the
setting of "mail folder" to the new named folder.(This
setting you can find it on menu:"tools"-"option"-one of
the page i forgot ,maybe "maintenance". lastly close and
start outlookexpress again, then you can see all mail back.

2. if you just copy several dbf file to disk, i think you
need to install a programe call "Express Archiver". This
programme can open the dbf file individually.

good luck

Sorry, forgot to tell you if you choose the first method,
may be you will need to backup you new mail since you have
to delete the old dbf. file. after change dirctory , the
new mail will disappear.
You can use the "output" command to back up any of the
mail to XXX.eml format, then you can read individually
with the windows OS or input the eml file back to
Outlookexpress again.
One more tips : you can choose many mails at the same time
and then output all the mails to seperate xxxx.eml format
at once.

Thank you Frank, this site will help me a great deal.

***Question: Why, why, why does Microsoft make the mail
program so unbelievably hard to back up or move to a new
computer? I'm on my 3rd computer with OE, and every
time, it's simply a nightmare trying to figure
out/remember how to get my important mail messages
tranferred. I use the computer for business, and much of
the email is essential for my records.

Just a hint :-)

It would be a great deal if you backup your DBX file file into PST format as PST file is the most secure and widely used extension. For performing this conversion you can use http://www.stellaroutlooktools.com/outlookexpress/dbx-pst.php
