When I try to log into many websites with IE6 I get the
following message as if the connection is gone - other
browsers work i.e. IE 5 and Netscape still work.

I get the following message.

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make
sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab,
click Settings. The settings should match those provided
by your local area network (LAN) administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft
Windows can examine your network and automatically
discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the
Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to
determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your
Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab,
scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL
2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

>.I have been having the same problem with IE 6.0 ..have
removed and re-installed it numerous times with no
luck...so have gone back to IE 5.51...and still get the
same msg....Can't get my passport accepted either....If
anyone has an explanation I sure would love to hear it....
MSN has not been any help at all...I am running Windows 98
SE and all I can find out is that I have a 0 bit cypher
and can't get 128 bit encryption....and this I got from my
ISP which is Road Runner Cable Modem.....MSN wants to
charge me $ 35.00 for help with this problem....
I guess a lot of us are in the same slowly sinking
boat....any suggestions would be more than welcome...

Similar problem here.
I have XP / IE 6.0
The problem is with secure web sites. Some secure web
sites work fine, but many do not. I have not been able to
find any commonality among the sites that do not work.

The IE "about" claims that 128 bit is enabled, and I have
all of the security protocols enabled, although I have
noticed that there is no longer an option to enable PCT
1.0 in IE 6.0

My system is behind a firewall, but another system on the
same network with IE 5.01 on W2K works fine.
