I close one IE window and they all close!

One of our users reported that starting two days ago, every time he
closes one Internet Explorer window, all the rest that he had open
close as well. Any ideas on the cause and what we can do to fix it?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
