IE closes pop up windows, but no blockers are installed

I am a network admin and I built a machine (XP Prof.) for
a sales rep. Aside from the regular service packs and
critical updates, I have not installed any third party
applications. We use Microsoft CRM which is a browser
based app but is essentially a pop up window from
Explorer. When I try to open it, a fly swatting noise
occurs and IE closes. Browsing other internet sites
works fine but it does close any pop ups that may come
up. No one has intentionally installed any pop up
blockers and I can't find it under processes, services or
add/remove programs. Does anyone know where this thing
