When trying to type in a site like google.com into the ie address bar it
doesnt auto populate any longer that it is http:// and it takes about 3
minutes to figure it out and autopopulate. When I manually type in http://
goes straight to the site. I tried to reset to default settings and checked
the registry but found nothing.

Any hints on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing this same issue, but my registry settings are correct. If I
type a URL without prefixing the http://, it will eventually load, but is
extremely slow. If I prefix it with http://, the site loads immediately.
Anyone have any ideas?
