Setting the activated property with JScript

Hi,
Any way to set a link to the css state "activated" through JScript ?
The need arise due to at menu (with css - hover, activate etc.) that is
reloaded upon menu selection - hence nothing is activated when done loading
(works fine with framesets, but that's not a solution here).
Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated...
