CSS - Variables??

Dear All,
I am wondering if there is any way to use variables within CSS?
I want to be able to define some positional settings then use them in the
style sheet. Is this possible?
I know I can get access to the DOM, so I could use hidden fields, but really
I;m hoping there's a neater way.
Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

I think your only option for this would be to use expression() for the CSS
attribute. I've not done a lot of performance testing with this, but it
seems to me that the recalculations involved with dynamic styles would be
pretty expensive.
