CSS Layers problem

Greetings, all! First off, let me preface my question by stating that I am
an utter rube at using CSS, and have just started playign around with
stylesheets recently. So if I'm missing something blatantly obvious, please
don't snicker TOO hard. :-)
Anyway, after playing around with some limited CSS, I was able to implement
a layer that did what I wanted:
You'll (hopefully) see where in the main frame of the website (main.html),
there is an image of the tree leaves that are in a seperate layer, making it
appear as if the content of the page scroll "behind" the leaves when
scrolling.
So far, so good.
However, I found out much to my dismay that when I move my mouse around
within main.html, there is no visual reference when I reach a link -- when
positioned over a link, the cursor remains an arrow and does not change into
the expected "hand" icon. The hyperlink still works, however -- if I click
on the area, it functions normally. I just don't get any visual feedback of
any sort.
I can speculate as to what the problem is (probably something having to do
with how the CSS/browser sends cursor information through layers) but I
haven't the foggiest idea as to how to fix it. Any help would be most
appreciated.

When I look at the page in IE 5.5 the leaves scroll with the body, and the
links look fine. I think you have much deeper problems.
