CSS and French Accents

I am doing a site with css and I need to type in french accents for ie é è à
etc...

I have done this using my French Keyboard (which I install using add
language) - I have windows xp

When I tried to validate my site using WC3 I am told it can not validate as
it does not understand these characters - should I be using something else
for writing my accents.

you have to use special characters for that, in your case: é è
à
