Does filter can alter an image color

Hi there,

I'd like to be able with css to have an img tag where i could apply a color
filter. So it would give to a grayscale image a red,blue,or green filter(or
whatever color i choose). That way i could have the same image but in
several color .. all of this from only ONE image. get it?

if anybody knows how i could do that i would be please to hear him or her!
