For the last 3 weeks I've been trying unsuccesfully ot
connect to my Hotmai laccount using OE 5.5. It was working
before but all of a sudden it stopped. Please, note I can
acces my Hotmail account from other systems thru OE
without any problems. I can also access other non-
Hotmail accounts form this system w/o problems.

I uninstalled and re-installed OE but didn't help. I
removed the accoutn and recreated it but that didnt help
either.

I always get this message:
=================================
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server.
Account: 'Hotmail',
Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp'
, Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x80040154
===========================

What's going on? any ideas?

TIA

I think there may be a problem with the Hotmail server that Microsoft hasn't
publicized. (Surprise!) I posted the following message to this group last
weekend:

"'I've recently set up an OE Hotmail account per Microsoft instructions, but
whenever I attempt to download my Hotmail folders & contents, I get the
following error message:

>Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail',
>Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol:

>HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Service Unavailable', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
>Error Number: 0x800CCCF0

"I assume the service IS available, and I've just overlooked something. Any
ideas? Please post answers to the group."

When I contacted Hotmail Support, they responded with a useless list of
"Help" links. Now I find that I can't SEND mail with OE/Hotmail either, and
I no longer assume the service is available. My guess is that all of a
sudden it will start working again, but with no explanation.

Hmmm. Maybe one of the MVPs can confirm a suspicion I have. I ran my
"regedit" and did a search on "Internet Account Manager" and found two
locations in my registry with information on my Hotmail accounts. Maybe
after deleting the account one could check the registry to see if any keys
were left behind after the account deletion. Supposing that actually
happened; something got corrupted so the keys pointing to the inoperable
accounts remained. Delete them from the registry, then add the account back.

Just thinking...still learning.

I have a similar problem; I had OE 5.5 setup and working with my Hotmail
account, but two days ago it just stopped working. When it tries to connect,
it repeatedly asks me for my login information, then I supply the correct
info... then it asks again, etc. I emailed MS asking about it, but got the
same stupid page of links that other guy got. Does anyone know of any other
free email clients that can get from HTTP servers?

I suspect that we will see a fix coming as the service has been real strange
of late.
