ICW does not complete setup

Win 2000
Original internet connection appeared to lose password.
Attempted to edit using IWC and lost function and icon.
Tried to create new connection but never completes proccess.
Creating dial-up with manual setup gets to the prompt for
Connection name then brings up notice "entry must contain
at least one character the is not a space and can not begin
with a period. choose a different name" Changing name does
not resolve. Do not get display of modum designation in ICW
like I did on Win98 system.
Tried ICW selections for New and Transfer connectons and
get notice "You already have and internet connectin using
." After opting to continue I get messasge "Internet
Connection Wizard has not finished setting up your internet
connection are you sure you want to close wizard"
Ran Win 2000 overlay install and no better. Appears
original connecton stuck as "." connection.
Any suggestions to remove and/or repair ???

My attempt to repair Windows 2000 has resulted with the same problem.
I get to step 3 using ICW and cannot make a connection. I have
searched the Micorsoft database and cannot find a solution. I have
tried a few steps listed in the discussion groups. However, I now have
a system that is an expensive paperweight. Any help is appreciated.
