Hello to anyone listening!

I have been monitoring this newsgroup for several weeks here and
checking for new messages about every weekday. I'm wondering if anyone
else is doing the same, or if this place is just simply dead.

As you point out, this newsgroup is just about dead.
It is unlikely that many will still be using it for IE5 setup
problems, but the odd stray sometimes appears.

I monitor it daily and have for many years and I am sure I am not the
only one.

I guess it should tell you something about a company if a program is so
troublesome to install that it needs it's own newsgroup. Does MS ever
retire these things?

Hi Joel,

Yes, as you can see, there are some people checking this newsgroup on a
regular basis.

Yes, Microsoft does retire older versions. They have lifecycles established
for each version of each product (see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx). But that doesn't
mean that all users stop using older versions.

Kind regards

Hans

I realize that oldI guess I should have been more specific... Does MS
ever retire these newsgroups? Semes like users of older versions could
always poll the users in a later version's newsgroups where there is
actually some activity... Or newsgroups could be verionless for apps as
simple as IE. But yeah - does ms retire newsgroups?

Hi Joel,

Frankly, I guess they do, but don't know. I'm not aware of a policy about
deleting old newsgroups. I have been pong around and could find 2 groups
about IE3, but none about IE2.

Someone else might have more details.

Kind regards

There seem to be 3 or 4 people here.
