What have I done??? I have had to re-install windows and while everything is
working fine Outlook Express now takes ages to open as does send/receive and
exiting the program. Everything else seems to be in place and I've tried
de-fragging and uninstalling OE 5.01 and re-installing but no change.
I've had a good look through the threads here but can't seem to find any
similar problems.
Any suggestions?
Derek

Deselect *Compact messages in background* in Tools, Options, Maintenance if it is checked. Use File, Folder, Compact All. Keep the number of messages in your Inbox to a minimum either by moving messages to be retained to an archive folder(s) created by placing cursor on Local Folder and selecting File, Folder, New or by deleting unwanted messages.

You might also try compacting your messages using File, Folder, Compact All followed by Scandisk in Safe mode and finally Disk Defragmenter in Safe mode. Note these activities need doing regularly and all can take time.

Do you have an anti-virus programme running continually in the background? That can slow proceedings!

If these fail to resolve your problem have a browse of Tom Koch's site -see link below:

Hope this helps.

Apart from the compacting advice I have done all the other things and I'm
reluctant to take that route as it seems that it was something to do with
the windows reinstallation that caused this problem but thanks anyway.

It's ok, somebody has told me that it was the imagehlp.dll filen that was
missing and that seems to have been the case.
Always grateful for any advice I get in these groups and I have to say that
it is usually better than the help I get from Gateway 2000.
