I had the same problem, what I did was this:
Click TOOLS/OPTIONS/SECURITY
Click ADVANCED (button)
See REVOCATION CHECKING/check for revoked Digital ID's
put dot in NEVER
From what I understand of this is: it will check the Digital ID server
everytime you sign a message to see if that ID is still valid...the server
takes a very long time to do this...soooo...stop it from checking everytime.
(besides...it's your ID...and you know what the exp. date is so why
crosscheck it?)
But then again...that is just MY opinion...but the fix worked for me.
