Is it correct that Yahoo and Hotmail are still the only http mails
configurable on OE? Thanks, R.H.

Yahoo is not a http mail service but uses POP3 and STMP to send and receive mail. If you have Yahoo and sign up for the Yahoo Delivers service, the settings are all outlined in that webpage.

Exchange2000 supports it so OE can use it with any Exchange2000 box offering
the service.

And how many commercial ISPs are using Exchange2000 for their mail
systems?

The answer to the original question is that Hotmail is so far the only
free e-mail provider that supports HTTPMail. Yahoo will deliver your mail
by POP.

(I think HTTPMail is a good innovation, and it's a shame that Microsoft
won't document it so that other providers could use it too).

Judging by Hotmail-OE's lack of reliability, I'm glad that other providers
_don't_ use HTTPMail. (See
http://www.bugnet.com/alerts/bugalert_001228.html ) In addition, OE Mail
Rules don't work with HTTP accounts.

Thanks for the responses. I'm still sorting out all this protocol stuff.
I guess my actual question was whether I would be able to set up OE to get
my free...@whateversite.com mail. Not Yahoo and as well as Hotmail. Thanks
R.H.

"Ooh, it must be true, it's on bugnet!" ???

That was a very poorly researched article, that didn't make any effort to
understand or explain the source of the problems that some people have
with OE5/Hotmail. And it totally ignored the problem of ISPs that block
HTTPMail traffic entirely with old proxy servers that don't support
WebDAV.
