That's a known bug in OE. If you use MIME/Quoted Printable, the blank space
will remain, but most newsgroups don't like MIME/QP. All I can say is that
the OE team is aware of it. Hopefully it will get fixed someday, but I am
not holding my breath waiting for it. :-(

I couldn't find it in the Knowledge Base. I take it (known !=

I found that if I used MIME/None, the space was retained when I posted a
new message to a group, but when I replied the space disappeared. Is
that a bug or a feature?

Well, it's been published in this newsgroup. ;-)
Actually I think there might be a German KB article on the sig separator
bug. Then again perhaps I dreamed it. A couple of my German friends always
mention that bug when we talk about OE. <g>
