I was attempting to install a wireless D-Link card DWL-
G250 on a machine running Win98 Second edition. Prior to
the installation the machine was running on a cable
internet provider through a D-Link router, using a direct
cable, and no problems. Once the wireless card was
installed, and it did require 3-4 addtional 98 SE files
from the Windows CD, I was unable to access the internet.
I would see "This page cannot be displayed". Working with
D-Link we could never get the wireless card to even ping
so I uninstalled the card and the software and tried to
access the internet through the cable. I could not do
so. The "this page cannot be displayed" was shown.
Again, working with D-Link techs, I was ultimately able to
ping two different IP addresses using their number
addresses, this through a cable attachment from the PC to
the router, but I could never get Internet Explorer to
bring up a page. D-Link suggested putting a free browser
other than IE and trying that, which I did using Firefox.
Unfortunately, it had the same problem, no page could be
brought up through that browser.
Can anyone think of why I might be blocked from using
either browser????? I am going to try and load IE 6 onto
the subject computer but I am concerned there is something
else that happenned when I tried to install what I think
must have been a defective D-Link wireless card and/or
software.
Has anyone had this problem?
The subject machine runs current Norton Antivirus with
automatic updates and Norton's Personal Firewall. Both
that are scrupulously run all the time. We also run
Spybot Search and Destroy to remove spy ware.
Your suggestions appreciated.
