I have Windows XP Dell Dimension E510.

IE7 Not Responding messages constantly appearing.

I was told by a Dell tech to do a system restore and he mentioned several
causes for this. I did not want to do a system restore because I would be
going round in circles since I did uninstalls and reinstalls on several
programs and updates (including McAfee and Logitech Mouse with Set Point).
Please explain to me exactly what you lose when you do a system restore. -
do this included installs and reinstalls? I did have a problem the last
time I did a system restore with some setting.

Is there any other way to correct these not responding messages.? Dell tech
set IE7 back to my default settings when he tried to correct the problem
before telling me I needed to do a system restore. This changed my home
page setting and I had to change it back to what I wanted. I believe my
advanced settings were all defaults.

Would repairing IE7 help? If so give instructions please. Would
uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 help?

Yes.

Probably not/

Probably not.

I know of two causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
