Help,

the kids have 'been at' the computer and IE5 will not fire up from the short
cut/explorer icon on desktop :

'Windows is unable to locate iexplore.exe'

or from task bar '....drive or network connection....lnk not available.

I can get it running from Windows Explorer by clicking the icon but I want
to get it going from desktop/task bar....

I found the file on the cd and copied it over but that did not work !

Many thanks in advance for advice/info

Andrew Try this:
Go to Start>Programs>Scroll down to the Internet Explorer Icon and right click on it and left click on "Create Shortcut". Now you will see two IE's in the Programs list. Drag the second IE off to your Desk Top (By putting your arrow on the second IE while holding down on the left mouse button and dragging the second IE off to your Desk Top and releasing the left mouse button) . You may delete the IE Shortcut that you have been having problems with. You can also Create another Shortcut to drag on to your Quick Launch Tool Bar if you like .

Good Luck,
Philip

Philip,

Thanks, but the problem is still there...

it's not the short cut that appears to be the problem, but Windows expecting
to find this iexplore.exe file.

The icon I have on the desktop is not a shortcut (with a curvy arrow), but
one in it's own right (like 'my computer').

Click this and Windows thinks you want to install IE !

Create a shortcut and you get:

Windows cannot find c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe.

But when I copied it of the Windows CD into that directory Windows tells me
of for trying to install IE again !!!

Thanks for your suggestions ...anything else ..apart from installing windows
again !

Cheers

Andrew

Have you tried the IE5 Repair Option? Its in the Control Panel> Add and Remove Programs select IE5 then click on Add and Remove button>Look for the Repair Option.
If no luck repost back.

Andrew try this:
Go to Start>Find>Files or Folders>Do a search for iexplore.exe on your C Drive.
Make sure that iexplore.exe is in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE.
If you find it out of that folder use windows explorer to move it there. Right clicking and dragging gives you that option.

Good Luck

If iexplore.exe is not in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and none of the fixes that Philip suggests work you will have to reinstall Win98SE over itself. You should be able to install it over itself. It will take around half an hour, but that should fix the problem.
