I have a question regarding Star Micronics Printer TUP992

I am always facing this problem and somehow .. like a miracle it works.. But
I need to know what makes it work and what makes it not to work

I connect the Star Printer to my PC over USB
the USB infact emulates COM port
Usually the printer occupies COM6 or COM7

I change the port to the correct port on Printer Properties
I use the tool SMJ WEPOS Register to register the WEPOS Service Objects
TUP942D on the respective COM port

Then I open the Microsoft POS Sample application to talk to the printer...
1) When I press OPen - It opens the device
2) When I press Claim - It Claims the device
3) But when I try to check in the the checkbox DeviceEnabled-- The
Application hangs and does nothing.

I tried this via code and it does the same thing....

But once in a while it gives me a surprise by making the device work?

Please let me know if I am missing something here.

Thank You

That sounds odd. Is it the same computer on the same port that
sometimes works and other times does not? Hate to ask the obvious
question, but is the printer turned on?

One thought, is a remember that sometime back some Epson devices using
OPOS had problems when they were assigned a printer port about COM4 or
COM6 (I don't remember which was the upper limit).

If you have the printer so that it is assigned a lower COM port number
(ideally below 4 but at least no higher than 6), do you still have the
same problem?

Regarding COM ports remember that:
- If COM1 is being used COM3 cannot be used
- If COM2 is being used COM4 cannot be used
Also, for USB serial printers is best to get the driver from the hardware
manufacturer, on most USB to Serial you can get it here
