When setting up MCE to work with a satellite receiver it states that the IR
Blaster hardware is not found, not installed or something to the effect. The
Hauppauge remote works well within MCE.
Does MCE require a specific IR Blaster (other than Hauppauge's)? Is there a
registry setting that I need to set?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

* To use the WinTV-HVR-1600 for TV with the Windows Media Center
application, a Media Center certified DVD or MPEG software decoder should be
standard in your Media Center PC. If you are building a Media Center PC,
check Microsoft's web site for a list of Media Center certified DVD
decoders.
Note: the enclosed remote control is not MCE certified and does not replace
Media Center remote control.
MCE compatible remotes/receivers can be purchased at a number of locations,
including www.newegg.com

Is there a way to select the Video input source of my HVR-1600 within MCE?
I would like to capture an AV feed from a VCR and/or a satellite box.
Thanks in advance!

Any help on either of these two questions?

Just make sure the remote comes with the receiver and both IR emitters.

I agree with the whole lot but what if I want to use the remote for my set
top box to change channels?
I installed my TV tuner box neatly into a central cabinet.
I can't get Media Center to skip the IR detection step and let me be on my
merry way.
Well you're defeating one of the main features of Media Center (unattended
recording of TV shows), but if that is what you want to do, there are a
couple of options:
- Plug the IR equipment in for the set up and don't use.
- Tell MC you are using an antenna, leave the TV on channel 3/4, and use
your STB to change channels.
- You can try using the IR driver, it fakes MCE into thinking the IR
receiver is attached. It was written a few years back, so I don't know if it
works with all versions of MC. Download it here:
http://www.myhava.com/forum/download/file.php?id=53 Unzip and follow the
directions on installing and you should get past the 'IR Hardware not
Detected' error message.
