Hi all,
Since Patch Tuesday, all 5 of my Windows 7 machines have gone bananas.
I discovered that Wuauserv.exe is running flat out on 1 core on each
machine, and Windows Update has been stuck at 0% for a week trying to
download the latest updates.
I disabled automatic checks and rebooted. Then I ran the WU Fixit
tool from
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
and rebooted when it was done.
That fixed problems with 4 of my machines ... it "reregistered" the WU
client on 2 of them, and erased the software distribution directory on
all. After an hour or so resynchronizing, 3 of the machines happily
updated afterward.
But many hours later 1 of them still is "checking for updates" ???
How long is "too long" to check? (on a 3GHz P4 HT)
But running the Fixit tool the 5th machine (an i3 laptop) continues to
get stuck at "resolving problems". It sits there for hours if I
allow it. None of the others took more than ~15 minutes to run the
fix.
How long is "too long" to "resolve problems"?
Thanks,
George
