(my debugging-over-1394 problem continues......(the last post (please
ignore that) sat unanswered while I made further changes and am faced
with a fresh new problem))

My 1394 host controller on the target is tagged with a yellow ! mark
with the following error msg:
...Windows cannot load the drivers for this device.(Code 31)...
(the driver loads properly when booted in non-debug mode, though I
have no way to tell if the connection works)

Is this the reason why Windbg cannot connect to the target? But I
learnt that one has to disable the 1394 host controller on the target
for Windbg to work. If a disabled and a non-functioning driver be the
same,. then is there a problem with the 1394 cable?

Please help.

You need to disable the device on the target, not doing that can cause you
to not connect.
