I'm trying to debug a crashdump from my wife's Win7 32 bit system on my Win7
64 bit system.

My symbols path is:

0: kd> .sympath
Symbol search path is:
SRV*d:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
Expanded Symbol search path is:
srv*d:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

Yet windbg refuses to load symbols:

0: kd> .reload
DBGHELP: ntkrnlmp.pdb - file not found
*** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for
ntkrnlmp.exe -
DBGHELP: nt - export symbols

I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

There is extensive help in the debugger on triaging symbol problems. Did
you try any of those suggestions? I notice that the debugger output that
you posted does not include the symbol spew that one gets after engaging the
"!sym noisy" command. Turning on the symbol spew is the first step any
programmer should take when he or she cannot get symbols. How sure are you
that your computer has clean access to the web and whether your debugger
needs to be configured to get through a firewall or proxy server? It is
also possible that you are trying to get a symbol that is not available.
Are you experience a problem with a single symbol file or all of them?

Hi pat,

I seem to have a related problem. Got a minidump for a co-worker that
run 32 bit OS. I am running Win7 64 bit.

My symbol server setup has been working for quite a while, but now I
got this minidump that references a MSVBVM60.DLL that does not seem to
have symbols on the MS symbol server.

Both my co-worker and my machines have the save version of VB6 loaded
to it.

Please read log below and let me know what I am doing wrong or if
symbol is really not in MS symbol server.

Thanks,
Osiris Pedroso

Is it just one single file that you can't get? Are you able to get other
symbols from the site? If so, then it is a simple case that Microsoft has
not made the pdb for this version of this module available.
