Hi Everybody

a customer sent us a (Windows 2000, SP3) Small Memory Dump for analysis but
we are unable to open it.

Windows 2000 dumpchk.exe returns "could not initialize dump file"
Windows XP dumpchk.exe returns "cannot open dump file .. error 80004002"
WinDbg (6.3.0005) returns the same error code, plus a message that says that
the dump file may be corrupted or in a format not understood by the
debugger, which I doubt.

ps: also dumpchk -p and all other variants failed.

Any tip/idea beside the obvious "the dump file is corrupted" ?

BTW, if that is indeed the case, what could cause a dump file corruption?

thanks,

Lots of dumps files get corrupted. If there is a disk problem, or heavy
memory corruption at the time of the crash, the data may not get collected
correctly.
