When pc is loading Win'98, a message states that ndiswan.vxd was
detected missing by Windows registry and System.INI. After running the
registry editor, I was prompted to insert MS-Windows 98 CD. The problem
is--my computer came with a recovery CD which contained all software
originally installed but not a separate Win'98 CD. How may I get a
Windows 98 CD without having to purchase one? Also, is there another
option of fixing this error message? Thanks in advance.
Mr. DeLuca,
Posting three messages here (and I hope not in other ng's) in two minutes
will not win you any fans. One message in one ng followed by patience is
very good. (I hope some Internet system error caused the 3 posts.)

First, confirm that ndiswan.vxd is not in Windows\System, (or anywhere).
If it is, Right-click\Properties will show you its version. Note it.
(Also confirm that you have ndiswan16.dll and ndiswan32.dll files
in the same directory.)
Rename it to ndiswan.vx_ and run sfc.exe; instruct sfc to extract one file,
and extract ndiswan.vxd to windows\system. Confirm that the version
is the same. Reboot and evaluate.
If you receive the same error message, copy the file to
C:\Windows\system\vmm32 and reboot. If it fails again, boot to Safe Mode
and delete the copy in ...\vmm32.
Booting to the Menu Option using the Ctrl key at Startup, and creating
a bootlog.txt file may help identify the problem.
