This evening my wife's computer did the blue screen of death. It happen upon waking it up from
standby mode. I figured "No Problem" and rebooted. It failed to reboot properly again and again.
If I ever did get it to display an error message it was this:

Fatal Exception 0E has occured at 0028:C0005338 in VxD VMM(01) + 00004338

Next, since I was planning on doing clean sweep of her hard drive in the near future I decided to do
it tonight. Completely reformated the Hard drive and zeroed it with my Western digital utility. I
then scanned it, the utility said it was error free. I installed win 98 next. The install went
fine until the very end when it went to restart. It began to restart, then told me that windows was
not shutdown properly, and a few minutes later I got the same error message as above.

I can hit the space bar and it goes away, only to return a few minutes later.

Any general ideas of what could be going on would be greatly appreciated.

I can supply further details if needed, just let me know.

Thank you,

Cody

Rename vmm32.vxd to vmm32.old and reboot. Win9x should then try to rebuild
this file during the boot up. Any probs just rename the file back to its
original name and reboot. The VMM file consolidates many device drivers into
a single file. One of your devices may be misconfigured. See the MS
Knowledge Base pertaining to this file.
