Don't even try it. It would go very, very slow. Your best bet is to stick
with Win 3.1 until you can upgrade your motherboard and processor.

It runs but suggest another 16Megs of ram to be sure. Also use this switch
to install Win98 on your machine.

SETUP /NM

/nm - This switch bypasses the minimum hardware requirement test. This
tests for a minimum of a 486/66DX central-processing unit (CPU)
and 16 megabytes (MB) of memory.

The retail box says that it REQUIRES a DX2/66.

It will run but how well is another matter. You must get more RAM in either
case. Another option is an "overdrive" type cpu upgrade. Shop around first
because you don't want to spend money upgrading when you can get a new setup
for the same price as the upgrades. I like checking places where people put
their machines up for quick cash...always great deals there.

Except for the 2.5 Hd I would put it in a black plastic bag and set it by
the curb!

It's technically feasible
I would never recommend it. Stick with 3.1 and get the Calmira desktop (!)
98 will slow your system down to a screechin' halt.......

even my p166/64megs/3.2gig/10speed is sometimes havin trouble keeping up ;)

My windows 98 will not shutdown. It gives me an error message Msgsrv32
(Cm8330sb.drv) I also cannot complete a disk defragment. It will do a small
proportion and stop leaving a blank screen.
I rang Microsoft and they seem to think that I have to many fonts in the
register. I have deleted over 500 font and now about 900. I did not have any
problems with WIn95.

Can anyone help with this problem?

With that setup I would go with Opera 3.12 for your browser and Agent
1.5 for mail & news. Lean and fast. Best bet for a 486/33

What about win95. Would that be able to run at a use-able speed on my
machine. The problem is, is that so much software is written for
win95/win98.

i read somewhere that win98 speed bumped at 486dx2-66 and would not
allow installation below this..

Look at the entire thread for the post where I tell you how to bypass this

Microsoft's minimum requirements are:

486DX/66Mhz or higher processor
16MB Memory
120 to 295MB of available disk space
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive
VGA or higher resolution monitor
Microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device

It won't even install. I've got a 486 dx2/50 and the win 98 setup
immediately told me that I need a 66.

Hi

If you want to play around use the /nm switch

Setup /nm will bypass this check

It would be possible to install it, (disable compliance check) but you
wouldn't like it very much. Your video card and CD are both totally
inadequate for almost any of the things that Win98 can do. Its really
time for you to upgrade to a newer class of hardware overall if you
want to take advantage of newer software and features. Don't forget
that when Microsoft gives minimum requirements, they go as low as
possible in order to sell more copies. The minimum they give is higher
than what you have.

A 200 Mhz Pentium with 32 MB of RAM, and decent video card, CD-Rom,
Soundcard, Fast Harddrive, etc will cost about half what your DX33
cost in 1992. It won't be anywhere near top of the line, but it will
run mega-circles around what you have now.

Get a Kingston Turbo Chip 133MHz for about $80. It drops directly into the
486 socket.
