Hello Richard
I have been accompanying this news and I notice that you are a specialist in
the subject.Congratulations.
I am here with a problem that I try to solve the plenty time.
I have a PC with the following configuration:
Win98 (4-10-98)
MB: SOYO SY6BA+III - ATX
PIII 450 MHZ
Modem: USR 3Com - PCI Voice installed in COM5 (IRQ11).
The resources Wake On Ring and Power On By Modem don't work.
In the setup the configurations ACPI and APM are enabled.
With the keyboard and the mouse the functions wake usually work.
The one that you think I could do to put in operation these resources?

Excuse me for my English.

I thank in advance.

Good day to you!

You should check your motherboard's reference manual for details on the Wake
on Ring and Power on by Modem settings. They may require a special modem
with an extra connector for the motherboard (like the "Wake on LAN" feature
requires) and in any case will definitely require a modem that supports this
feature whether or not an extra connector is needed. I don't know if the
USR modem supports wake events but it seems likely that it doesn't if all
other settings and connections are correct.

I believe that PCI modems can wake the system using PME rather then the
Ring Indicate line. RI will work for external modems attached to serial
ports.

Look in the BIOS setup Power Management page for "Modem use IRQ" - set it
to the same as your modem. Look for something like "PME enable", "wake by
PCI Master" or "PCI/VGA Act-Monitor" - enable these.

I think you should try contacting USR support, I'm sure they would know how
to make their modems work !
