Gave my old Windows 95 computer to my mother-in-law and
she's finally decided to put away her typewriter. She ran
right out and got a scanner that only works with Windows
98 and connects via USB ports.

Prior to upgrading to Windows 98, the USB ports on the
computer were working fine with both joysticks and
camera. After the upgrade to Windows 98 SE, the USB ports
seem to have disappeared from Device Manager. How can I
get Win98 to acknowledge that I do indeed have USB ports
on the back of the computer.

I tried doing a hardware install of generic USB drivers,
but that did not make the ports magically appear under
Device Manager properties. (And I did have my fingers
crossed! :-)

I have looked through all the CD's and diskettes that came
with my computer 5 years ago, and have not found anything
that specifically says that it contains USB port drivers.
I'm hoping that if I need them, they are on the Intel CD.

I'm figuring that if I get past this problem, the scanner
or camera might get 'found' as new hardware when they are
plugged in.

Please help.

Did you check the manufacturer's web site to see if you need USB drivers for
Windows 98?

Which manufacturer are you referring to? I can't figure
out from my old documentation and CD's, whose USB ports
are on the computer. I think they are Intel.
