msinfo32 abends with message 'This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down. Details>> Msinfo caused an invalid page fault in
module MFC42.dll at hex location etc.etc. Msinfo32 ran fine before so sounds
like a corrupt file. Any ideas on which file and how to restore/repair it.
My OS is Win98se. Thanks..

msinfo32 abends with familiar message 'program has performed an illegal
operation' Details are 'msinfo32 caused an invalid page fault in module
MFC42.DLL at location (in hex). msinfo32 worked before so I suspect a
corrupted file. Any thoughts on which file or how to repair/restore it. My
OS is Win98se. Thanks....

This might help. Search your hard drive for multiple copies of Mfc42.dll.
If you find any outside the \windows\system folder, then rename them to
Mfc42.old.

This article describes a different problem created by multiple Mfc42.dll
files on your system and gives step by step instructions for renaming the
extras.

If this doesn't help, you might try extracting Mfc42.dll from your Win98
installation CD. It's also possible (but less likely) that the problem is
with Msinfo32.exe so you may want to also extract that to replace the one on
your system.
