MSinfo32.exe redirect output to a text file

I was given a job to request info from user pc using a java program. i was
going to call MSinfo32.exe from the program as you would from the command
line. it works fine in xp and 200 professional, but i cant redirect it to a
simple text file in win98 windows 9x.

The command that i thought would work creates a file but no data is passed
in. eg.

start msinfo32.exe > test.txt

creates an empty file.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved
