I need to re-use a Windows98 SE machine that I didn't think I'd need.
Install disc long gone. Need it to get onto the internet.

Anyone know how to get a Windows 98SE original install disc??

Thanks

Already answered in the Win98.Gen_Discussion group. When you want to post
the same message to more than one group, use one message and put all the
appropriate groups in the TO header, instead of separate posts to each NG.
That way, when one answers in one group, all the other groups see that
reply. What you did is called "multi-posting". What I recommend is called
"cross-posting." See http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm for further
discussion of the two techniques.

You're welcome. You're also welcome to the assistance I provided by
answering your other post.

This response would be absolutely inappropriate in most cases. In this case I
believe that it was the correct response. You stated where you had already
posted an answer to the question and you provided information new to me. I
learned about a technique that is completely new to me in your statement on
cross-posting. I thank you for for both of those things. You gave an answer,
where to find the answer (already typed once), and you told me about a
technique that I habe never heard of. To my way of thinking, you did all of
the above while maintaining a professional position as the moderator of the
forum.

I would ask that you put a link to your answer in future posts. The hot
heads should be able to find the answer since they posted the question. A
link to the answer might help those of us who don't know their way around the
MIcrosoft forums very well.

You seem to think that cross-posting is ok, I wonder well how
"cross-posting" sits with with other forum users.

There is nothing wrong (in general) with cross-posting. Given the
thousands of existing news groups, there is considerable overlap in
focus between them, and some posts can involve elements of groups with
different content.

Crossposting is preferred over multi-posting, unless the poster
happens to be a regular reader of each of the individual groups being
posted to - and is prepared to carry on a discussion in each thread
spawned by each post.

A limited amount of x-posting is accepted by any reasonable newsgroup user.
Excessive x-posting, on the other hand, especially if done for the purpose
of advertising, is very frowned upon. One is expected to be careful when
choosing which groups to x-post to. Interestingly, it's not really useful to
x-post to similar groups, say three or four different Windows 98 groups,
since those are generally attended by the same persons. But if you have a
problem that involves Windows 98 AND Office 2000 AND interaction with a
Server 2003 domain, and you can't really tell where the problem originates,
then you would want to x-post to the most appropriate Win98 group, say
Networking, the most appropriate Office group, perhaps a Word macro group,
and a Server 2003 general group, not being sure what's involved on that end.

I don't add links to my sigs, other than my own site, simple as it is. I am
also not a moderator, even if it occasionally seems so. These groups have no
moderators.

You can download a Windows-98 CD from here:

http://dl.torrentreactor.net/download.php?id=1305362&name=Windows+98+Second+Edition+Full+Bootable+CD+%2B+CD+Key

If you have a bit-torrent program installed, then it should open when
you click that link.

If you don't have a bit-torrent program, then you can download uTorrent
(micro-torrent) from here:

http://download.utorrent.com/1.8.4/utorrent.exe
