I have an older desktop running windows 98. It has been rebooted so is
without updates... The modum doesn't work on it but have access to newer
machine running vista... I would like to down load updates to a cd so I can
install them on my older desktop. Thanking anyone in advance for your help.

Would you be OK with spending $3 to cover postage and packaging? I've
already compiled a 2-CD set that includes a copy of the Security Updates CD
issued by Microsoft in Feb. 2004. Includes IE 6.1 and all Updates to that
point in time. The second CD includes all remaining Updates (those that
aren't included in the Security Updates CD), both Critical and Recommended,
for Win98, Win98SE and WinME, including documentation and my own notes
regarding order of installation and when to reboot, etc.

Otherwise, the answer to your question until recently was to use the Windows
Update Catalog, which provides for downloading individual Updates.
Unfortunately, the Catalog was "updated" and all Win9x Updates, including
WinME, have been removed. If you know the name or associated KB article
number (or Security Bulletin number) you can find many of them at Microsoft
Downloads, but even that route is disappearing as more and more of them
simply direct the user to Windows Update, with no stand-alone installer
provided for Win9x products unless the installer is also good for updating
Windows 2000, XP or Vista. That's not generally the case.

To obtain the CDs, send me an email: updates_at_grystmill.com (change _at_
to @.)
