Why are you a luser and still running IE6 as your web browser?
Do you like hitting your head against an anvil?
Why aren't you using FireFox 2.0.0.20?
I can't believe all the numb nuts that are running win-98 and haven't
installed FireFox. do you people like pain and suffering?

IE6 has recently been exposed as having some severely crippling
vulnerabilities [in addition to the hundred or more since EOL of Win98
in 2006]. Whether all of them apply is unknown as NO ONE is testing IE
in Win98 anymore for the NEW vulnerabilities found.
The are very few browsers still working in Win98, one of which is Opera.

WHY are you [98 Guy] using a browser KNOWN to be vulnerable as we [you
and I in MORE than one discussion] have discussed those issues before.
You have the audacity to call this party a numb nuts;;; you are a
friggin moron. Crawl back under that rock...
So what happened dork, just a couple weeks ago you were espousing upon
installing all the Win2K IE6 files into Win98; so you finally came to
your senses or did the NT kernel change finally kill off your stupidity.

It's a known fact that IE exploit code must be written in such a way to
take into consideration the particular operating system for which it is
to be executed on. That means for IE exploit code to function properly
on the combination of IE6/Win-98, that the authors of the exploit must
code specifically for that combination.
I leave it to the reader to contemplate the likelyhood of the existance
and deployment of such exploits that target win-98.
> They are very few browsers still working in Win98, one of which is

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is still a perfectly acceptible browser for windows 98.
I've never used Opera - I've never had any reason to.
And with the use of the KernelEx helper, then Firefox 3.x and a lot of
other supposedly XP-only software can be run on win-98.

Because I discount the vulnerability issue and focus on the usability
issue.
I discount the vulnerability issue because of the targeted nature of the
vast majority of malware and exploits in current circulation. Malware
that targets Windows 2K, XP, Vista and Seven.
> You have the audacity to call this party a numb nuts;;; you are a

You are a foul-mouth bastard who has concrete for brains.
You constantly over-play the security card in this newsgroup, and
everyone knows it.
> So what happened dork, just a couple weeks ago you were espousing

Your reading comprehension problems continue don't they?
For the umteenth time, let me explain it again to you:
Most of the IE6-sp1 security rollup files that have been released by
Micro$haft for Win-2K for the past 3 years can infact be installed on
Win-98 with no apparent operational problems.
Me stating that fact doesn't take away from what I keep saying - which
is that IE6 exploits designed for NT-based OS's are not capable of
running properly on Win-98.
So we have a win-win situation:
a) win-98 users who don't install the 2K-IE6 files will probably never
encounter a functional IE6 exploit on their system
b) win-98 users who do install the 2K-IE6 files will be garanteed at
least of having an IE sub-system that is not vulnerable to known IE6
exploits, regardless if those exploits would infact function properly on
their system.
There is no downside as far as I can see.
The only downside to IE6 on win-98 is that it's a pathetic browser that
poorly renders the vast majority of web content today and for the past 2
to 3 years and only numb skulls use it as their primary browser FOR THAT
REASON.

No. Leave your IE6 as-is. What is your exact version of IE6?
Are you running windows 98 first edition or second edition?
> Does Mozilla work with Flashj.ocx better than the freeze or

I just went to youtube.com and played several videos with IE6 and they
all looked fine. On my system, IE6 uses flash version 9.0.260.0 and
using Firefox 2.0.0.20 it uses flash version 10.0.12.36.
I am using Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106IS, currently with Flash plugin
8.0.42.0 with Windows 98se.
I have tried flash 9.0.260.0 but I get the error (not vebatim):
Flash9j caused an invalid page fault in module iexplore.exe.
This occurs after a second or 2 of the rotating dots.
I have tried reducing video acceleration, but no good.
Regards,
ern.
I have downloaded an Archive containing 10 versions of the Flash plugin 9. Could
you be more specific as to viable versions.

ern

Sorry, not answering your question regarding "which one", but more to
advise that the error you may be experiencing may not be from the
version 9 player but from the newer code that may be used within the
Flash object [requiring version 10], and/or the system CPU speed and
memory, and other like factors; or that it may be an improperly coded
hack, unless Flash has never worked properly in your system in the first
place. If that is the case, then you have internal file issues to deal
with before proceeding.
You may also experience the issue when it is a LARGE Flash object over
a slow connection, where the code and or server "times out" during the
process; or other factors, such as malware already within your system.
Hence the above deals with your original issues:
"Is there a version of Flash player 9 which does not crash IE6sp1?"

I had to uninstall Flash Player fist then Reinstall the player just to make
it work on this CP....
Hope the Info will help you out!

Hi MEB.
Yes, that is right. Are you saying that you can use Flash 9j successfully on
sites like youtube?
I can play the videos there and other places with Flash 8 so that deals with
most of you're suggestions.
I am thinking a different browser might be the answer.

ern.

** I'll add, your usage of Flash 8 is affected by the same issue
depending upon where and what the particular Flash requires.

Okay, then that's not the apparent issue. You have already received the
version 9 links and where to obtain... potentially improper or
unsupported calls [either to the player or the OS] though don't overlook
the other comments I supplied previously.

Definitely! Find a new browser or you will be "fair game" for one of
the primary sites to become subject to hack attempts. Try to understand
WHY they are called Flash "objects" and they can be a carrier of various
direct, external [called from within], or other hacks [it has its own
coding "environment"]; AND that IE6 is filled with vulnerabilities, and
has never properly complied with Internet/Web standards.
Try Opera as it still works in Win98 and is still being worked on
[though no official support for Win9X]. FireFox v2 was left with a
critical internal XSS flaw and several other vulnerabilities when
support for that version ended.
You might also take note, that Flash 9 has also been shown to have
several vulnerabilities. You *MUST* also properly uninstall the prior
version FIRST, and then run the below uninstaller.
Did you follow the procedure of completely un-installing; the cleanup
[including possible manual deletion]; and then the re-install as shown
in the Adobe forums/Articles?
Did you go here for the cleanup tool and follow the directions?
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
AFTER you follow the proper uninstall and re-install:
*Make sure* you set the permissions again [you have done this before,
right] for Flash allowances.
