Hi Folks,

I recently upgraded a machine from Win 95 to Win 98 and now the floppy won't
work. Does win 98 support 5 1/4 inch floppy drive? Thanks in advance.

Jill, Win 98 does support a 5 inch drive. Does the 5 inch drive even show
up as an icon in windows explorer? Have you ever checked your BIOS
settings (but I don't see why this would have changed by just upgrading the
OS)? For the windows settings, you might check Control Panel, System,
Device Manager for that drive and see if it shows up.

I have a 5.25 inch floppy and a 3.5 inch floppy on my Windows 98 system,
although lately I am beginning to consider removing the 5.25 floppy because I
never use it anymore.

Did you do anything other than just upgrade to Windows 98? If not, your BIOS
setting that activates the 5.25 floppy should still be in effect. If you changed
mobos or upgraded your BIOS, then of course you need to select the 5.25 floppy
in your new BIOS. If you opened up the case for some reason, you may have
inadvertently knocked the 5.25 floppy data cable loose.

Yes it does and mine is a 360k low density drive which works well. I
suspect the default values in your BIOS settings most likely would not
set drive B: as a 5 1/4" if you selected 'use default values' in your
BIOS if you messed with that when upgrading. First page in BIOS setup
is usually the one where you set the drive # and type of Floppy drives
on your system - please check those settings first.
