I've used TCP Optimizer utility to "optimize" my network connection, after
applying changes and playing a little, I decided to revert changes back to
original settings, clicked "Restore Windows Default Settings", and after
this I can't get internet connection working anymore. I tried restart cable
modem, release/renew the IP address, restart PC, but this not help. Cable
modem itself is very sensitive to power interruptions and to the signal
level. What I think, possibly TCP Optimizer has not fully reverted registry
changes back to original settings? [win89SE]

TCP Optimizer changes various registry settings. If you restore to a
registry before TCP Optimizer made changes you'll be back to your old
(working) settings.

At boot tap, tap, tap F8. Boot to a command prompt. Type SCANREG
(enter), START, View Backups, then select the backup created before TCP
Optimizer. Reboot. Done.

Win98 makes a registry backup each time I've rebooted? How many backups it
store? Because after using that TCP Optimizer I rebooted PC many times, so I
need backup created before the day I installed TCP Optimizer.

Have you tried it to see if their is a date before or on the day you first
installed the Optmizer?
I believe the backup is only created on the first boot up of the day, but I
could be wrong.

PS: Only takes a few minutes to find out.

YES

FIVE, unless you specifically told it to do more (I do 18)

What day (date) did you install a USE TCP Optimizer? You'll need the
backup from that date or earlier.

Yes, this help: I find backup from previous day, and restored registry, then
the internet connection is restored immediately.
Can I safely remove a few registry backup files, that has been created after
using this junk TCP Optimizer utility?
One of them named "rbbad.cab".

In the future (having read the rest of the thread) you can try
this. It is a little work of genius. Of course it may not help
you with YOUR problem, but it fixed mine in a manner nothing
short of amazing.

Great link, thanatoid!! :)
Have a Merry Christmas yourself, if you celebrate it, and even if you don't.
Cheers,
