I installed Windows 98 about 8 months ago. XCOPY32 had been working
without any problems. Last week, I started getting "Bad or missing
XCOPY32.MOD". The file is there. I get the same error if I run the
command from Windows 98 Install CD. Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks

Try extracting a new copy from the cd to the hard drive.

Thanks for the suggestion. It still didn't work. Any other ideas?

One side note here.....

I can't find the damn cd or file but if memory serves me right, that
.mod file was updated in the Y2K patch for Win98. It might be that the
original from the cd isn't the correct version if the Y2K patch for win98
was applied already.

Whew!

Thanks Kirk - I was going nuts looking for the cd. The downloaded Y2K
file I thought I had must have been erased when the cd arrived so I was
going to DL it again just to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Let's hope this
has something to do with the problem or it will go down as another useless
fact for Win98 :-)

I think you speak sooth. My xcopy32mod.exe is dated 12/04/98, the Y2K update
fix's file date.

I previously had the 12/04/98 version. That's the one that started
giving problems. I extracted the 5/1/98 version from the CD and that
gives me the same error. Could it be that an associated file/DLL is
corrupt & not the MOD file perse.

Thanks

Xcopy32 works as a stand alone program so I don't think a DLL or
any other file should cause your error.

When you right click the file is the Properties Path....
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\XCOPY32.EXE?

All the best,

Try using xcopy.exe or xcopy32.exe (which are byte-for-byte *identical* in W98)
without the presence of xcopymod.exe. NEITHER will work without xcopymod.exe in
W98.

Kirk,
I don't have xcopymod.exe. I only have xcopy32.mod. xcopy.exe
xcopy32.exe are giving the same result. I sent an email to Peter that
a lot of other programs are failing. Notepad, Write, Visual Slick
Edit, Visio are all giving undefined error. I noticed problem with
xcopy first since I use that the most. I saw the other problems
yesterday.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Kamal
