Problem with display settings-adapter type incorrect??
I am setting up a PI mmx 233 for a family member. I installed
everything from scratch. Every thing worked great including 32bit
color and 600x800 resolution. But then I had a problem windows
protection error upon boot up, I eventually figured
out that it was a problem with the sound card, so I unplugged the sound
card, no more protection error. But then my screen went black on
occasion. After much trouble I figured out I had bent pins on the
mother board where the RAM get seated. So I straightened them out as
best as I could with precision tools. Now no more blank
screen.

Now I only have one problem with the display settings. I fairly sure
I download the right Ati drivers because I had no problem displaying 32
bit color with 600 X 800 pixels, but after restarting I got
this: "There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter
type incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your
hardware." Now I only get 16 color and 640x480 pixels. It will not
allow me to go any higher than that. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi,

See if any of this helps:

Some ATI adapters you must first configure the ATI card for the correct
monitor type. This is done using the INSTALL.EXE program found on the
disks provided with the ATI video adapters.

In the device manager (Right click my computer, properties, device
manager) make sure that the display adapter and monitor are properly
identified as in by make and model.

Display Adapter May Not Be Properly Detected : Error message, "Your
display adapter is not configured properly. To correct this problem,
start the Hardware Installation wizard.

Other checkpoints:

Start/Run/Dxdiag. Update DirectX if need be:
http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX/

Try right clicking a blank area on your desktop, properties, settings,
advanced, performance and lower the hardware acceleration.

Start/Run/Msinfo32/Components/Display/Problem Devices.

Lastly if your correct display adapter drivers are properly updated and
installed, try this measure: Start/Run/Regedit :
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Display\Settings. Right click resolution in the
right pane, choose modify and type in : 800,600. Registry, exit.

If none of this helps, repost.

Best of Luck,
Kelly

Chances are you DIDN'T get the correct drivers.
Some ati stuff is pretty specific about which drivers it can use.
You should double check the card type (exactly) get it out and check for an
FCC No. if poss. or a model No.

Or, another possibility is that he did get the right drivers but didn't
remove the existing adapters in SAfe mode prior and then select standard
vga on the reboot. Than you put in the right drivers.

Yes this method is not always necessary but to me in this case it is.

Nobody can _ever_ beat me in brief answers, if I pay attention to the
topic at all<g>

Now don't you go trying now that's my proprietary trademark
